📝 Question Writing
- Avoid Double-Barreled Questions: Address only one topic per question. For example, instead of asking "Are you satisfied with our service and price?", split it into two separate questions.
- Avoid Leading Words: Maintain neutrality. Do not use leading phrasing like "Do you agree with this excellent policy...?"
- Use Plain and Specific Language: Avoid technical jargon and define "frequency" concretely (e.g., change "often" to "how many times per week").
- Avoid Double Negatives: Phrasing like "Don't you think this isn't a good idea?" can be confusing for respondents.
- Ensure Consistent Definitions: If you mention "Teenagers," specify the age range (e.g., 12-18 years old) to prevent varying interpretations.
🔢 Option Design Logic
- Mutually Exclusive Options: Ensure ranges do not overlap (e.g., use 10-20 and 21-30, rather than having 20 appear in both).
- Exhaustive Options: Cover all possibilities. If unsure, include "Other" or "Not Applicable."
- Consistent Scale Direction: If 1 represents "Strongly Disagree," maintain 1 as negative and 5 as positive throughout the entire survey.
- Balanced Response Scales: Provide an equal number of positive and negative options (e.g., Excellent, Good, Neutral, Poor, Terrible).
- Categorize Sensitive Questions: When asking about salary, using "range brackets" makes respondents more willing to answer than asking for an exact figure.
🏗️ Overall Questionnaire Structure
- From Easy to Difficult: Place simple "warm-up" questions at the beginning and put complex or thought-provoking questions in the middle.
- Personal Data at the End: Place demographics like age, gender, and income at the very end of the survey.
- Skip Logic: If a respondent selects "Never purchased" in the first question, use logic to skip all subsequent "usage experience" questions.
- Control Total Length: Keep the number of questions reasonable; the estimated completion time should be within 3 to 5 minutes.
- Limit Open-Ended Questions: Short-answer or essay questions are the most taxing. It is recommended to have no more than 1–2 per survey.
🛠️ Final Pre-launch Checklist
- Test Mobile Interface: Ensure the layout looks good on mobile devices and buttons are not too small to tap.
